"Its easy to say after getting success that I did an extraordinary work and I did this and that, it was a heart rending experience and blah blah blah...but actually we all did nothing extraordinary when you look at it on a daily basis. It was not a special task that we did to succeed but rather a few simple tasks everyday. These few simple things that we did everyday were not at all heart rending."

We often think that ‘to achieve
something remarkable we have to do something extraordinary’. Though this idea
might seem plausible to our common sense, but in reality it is somewhat
demotivating. The more we think like this, the less enthusiastic we become in
our work. This very thought somehow puts a burden on our mind and may lead us
to quit. We quit because we are afraid of that extra ordinary effort that is
required to reach our goal. What we forget is that the extra ordinary work
which we need to do is itself made up of thousands and thousands of ordinary
acts. We neglect small looking work because we think what difference does it
make in the fulfillment of my goal. We tend to doubt the contribution of those
small things in our life.
Small things in life when
accumulated over a period of time give big results. So big that you are left completely
surprised and astonished. Suppose I am going after a big competitive exam that
requires year long preparations it is enough to frighten me to do something
extra ordinary. But what I have observed in my life so far, tells me a
different story. Rome was not built in a day. History has proved it time and
again. When British came to India, they tried to attack many Indian powers all
at once, but failed miserably. British learned from their mistake and adopted a
piecemeal approach. They fought just one Indian power at a time, and defeated
them one by one. And rest all is history.
It takes time to achieve
something big. We just need to work with a piecemeal approach. Identify those hundreds
of ordinary tasks that are hidden in your so called ‘extraordinary‘ work and when
you are dealing with them one by one, just ensure that you hit them hard
enough. Face them with complete devotion. I mean immerse yourself into that
task as if this is the only task that you ought to do. Do that one particular
thing as if without it you won’t even survive. You need to tell yourself everytime
that this one small act is enough to change your life. And it definitely will
change your life, for sure, no doubt about it. Take these small pieces of work
not as a means to an end but rather an end in itself. This is the simplest
secret to succeed.
Successful People didn't do JUST One Special task but rather Hundreds of SIMPLE Tasks. - Ankit Shukla
